The Civil Partnership Ceremonies website launched January 2006.
Our aim is to provide information and advice on arranging your Civil Partnership
Ceremonies.
December 2005 was a landmark month for same Sex Couples in the UK. From early
December 2005 they became eligible to register their intent to form a Civil
Partnership. Ceremonies were able to take place, depending on which
part of the UK couples were in, from 19th December 2005.

In England one of the first ceremonies to take place was between long term
partners Sir Elton John and David Furnish and many others also took advantage of
the new arrangements.
Whilst there is no "need" for a public Ceremony many couples want to take
advantage of the new arrangements to make a public declaration of their
commitment to one another.
Same sex couples contemplating a Family or Public Ceremony for their
partnership face many of the same questions and issues which opposite sex
couples have faced for thousands of years!
